Overview
Kennedy Place is a redevelopment of an abandoned, contaminated industrial site that will
provide market rate housing to enhance a downtown undergoing revitalization.
Since the site is close to the Still River in downtown Danbury, a key component of the site planning and development will be stormwater
management. The site development must be especially sensitive to the prior site contaminants that are now capped within the impervious
area of the site.
Stormwater Management
A significant component of the site development plan is
the use of a Greenroof to improve the current
100% impervious character of the site. The focus of creative stormwater management is to mitigate
site environmental challenges and improve water quality in the Still River. Rather than just maintain the site status quo, the design
effort focuses on creating attractive stormwater management structures to build a
visual asset for the project and its residents.
Smart Growth
This area is prime for in-town residential development due to its proximity to transportation, entertainment, dining, and
retail along with municipal services such as a library and post office.
When the development is completed, Danbury will have people with discretionary income living within walking
distance of the downtown area.
