The Challenge-
Danbury Library Plaza had become obsolete as have
many downtown plazas designed in the 1970's
-
The focal point fountain had not worked in years
and walls and trees hid the library facade from the street
-
The West-end wall was a remnant of the historic
City Hall that had burned - but no one knew of its significance
The Plan
- Create a welcoming place by removing the
antiquated walls and overgrown vegetation
-
Create a plaza entry to the library and a place of
gathering and celebration
-
Refurbish the historic wall and statue and layout
the form of the plaza as a stroll garden
The Result
-
The new Library Plaza is a vibrant focal point
for the library and downtown
-
Children enjoy the fountain and storytelling events in the plaza
-
People visit the plaza, sit on the benches and
read or enjoy the plantings
