The Challenge
  • Danbury Library Plaza had become obsolete as have many downtown plazas designed in the 1970's
  • The focal point fountain had not worked in years and walls and trees hid the library facade from the street
  • The West-end wall was a remnant of the historic City Hall that had burned - but no one knew of its significance

The Plan

  • Create a welcoming place by removing the antiquated walls and overgrown vegetation
  • Create a plaza entry to the library and a place of gathering and celebration
  • Refurbish the historic wall and statue and layout the form of the plaza as a stroll garden

The Result

  • The new Library Plaza is a vibrant focal point for the library and downtown
  • Children enjoy the fountain and storytelling events in the plaza
  • People visit the plaza, sit on the benches and read or enjoy the plantings
  • 2005 CTASLA Award winner
